It rises between the southern part of the Pollino National Park and the Sibari Plain. Of ancient origins, its historical center is developed around Medieval Castle and two Abbeys, that Santa Maria le Piane and that of Sant'Antonio Abate. Also to visit are the Mother Church, the Church of Santa Maria della Motta, the Church of Our Lady of the Carmine and the Parish Museum. The main festivals and local traditions are related to the worship of the patron saint Sant'Antonio Abate, Madonna del Carmine and Immacolata, as well as the typical gastronomy, exalted especially during the Festival of Peperone during Mottafolonese Summer, and the Autumn Festival of Boar and Novello Wine.
