Salento
Also known as the Salento Peninsula, Salento is an Italian geographic region coinciding with the southern part of Puglia, between the Ionian Sea to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east (it includes the entire province of Lecce, almost all of Brindisi and part of That of Taranto). Historically, Salento has been part of ancient circus called "Terra d'Otranto" for many centuries, strongly characterized both linguistic, architectural, folkloristic and enogastronomic, with reference to Messapian culture, Baroque style, traditional music of "pizzica", the presence of cultural minorities of the so-called "Grecìa" Salentina and Arbëresh, and some typical local food and wine features, such as Negroamaro wine.
