San Giorgio del Sannio
San Giorgio del Sannio, in the province of Benevento, is also called "City Ciclyng" thanks to its long tradition of cycling and enthusiasts, as well as by virtue of "Velo Club Sangiorgese asd", founded in 1975, which in collaboration with Municipal Administration has hosted three stages of Giro d'Italia and is working to create a Cycling Museum. Located on Appennino Sannita, between the courses of Sabato and Calore Irpino rivers, San Giorgio dominates the valley of Sabato. The most ancient area of the inhabited center stretches along a hilly ridge just above the current village, which in turn is formed by four fractions: San Giorgio, Sant'Agnese, Ginestra (the oldest village, of Roman origin) and San Rocco. Carlo III Spinelli (1678-1742) gave an important structure to the town, which in current Piazza Risorgimento built his palace, a fountain, a depot, the new church and, in 1720, a female monastery, later incorporated into ancient baronial palace as Educandado of Salesians. To visit in historical center: Mother Church of San Giorgio Martire with annexed Monastery of Visitazion, Churches of Carmelo, Santa Maria, San Francesco and several others located in the hamlets; War Memorial, with a fountain in the center with four dolphins; marble bust, on a marble capitals and headstone, depicting Carlo III Spinelli; the statue of Madonna dell'Immacolata, in homonymous square.
