Orto botanico di Pavia

Where Via San Epifanio, 14, Pavia

The Botanical Garden is part of the University Museum System and the Network of Botanical Gardens of Lombardy. Since the eighteenth century, by the will of Count Firmian of Habsburg, is headquartered in the church of St. Epiphanius, annexed to the Convent of the Lateran. In 1777, the direction of the Garden was taken over by Giovanni Antonio Scopoli (1777-1788), enriching the collections through acquisitions and exchanges of seeds and plants, further enhanced by the work of Domenico Nocca (1797-1826), who was responsible for the rebuilding of the "Serre Scopoli". The hot greenhouses are dated, however, to the early twentieth century. Immediately after the war, the Garden suffered heavy losses: it was remodeled in the style of the Lombard villas of the seventeenth-eighteenth century, with the implantation of a remarkable collection of roses. Currently, the Garden homes the following collections: roses, orchids, hydrangeas, herbs, cacti, water, Mediterranean, succulent, tropical and native. It features a library, a digital archive and offers guided tours.
