Piazza Vittoria

Where Piazza Vittoria, 13, Squinzano (Lecce)

Vittoria Square (or Convent Square) takes its shape in the early years of the twentieth century, when they were built most of the buildings that surround it, including Frassaniti Palace, on the right, birthplace of Mimì Frassaniti, one of the first Italian intellectuals to join the Futurist Manifesto of Marinetti. The Square has an elongated plant with Italian garden: at the center, the monument to the fallen of First World War depicting an angel holding in her arms the lifeless body of the Unknown Soldier by the Lecce sculptor Eugenio Maccagnani, inspired by the "Pieta" of Michelangelo; on the left side there are many stores, which make the Square the vibrant center of city life.
