The Church was founded in 1587 by the will of a noblewoman. Architect Francesco Grimaldi, completely rebuilt it in 1610 with the current appearance. The dome was designed by Grimaldi and dominates the Church. The interior decorations were entrusted to Giovan Battista Beinaschi, who painted the nave and transept, covered by barrel vaults, with episodes of the Life of the Virgin (1668-1675) and the dome of the Coronation of the Virgin. Francesco Maria Caselli is author of are large canvases painted in the mid-seventeenth century to the apse and to the transept. Another important work is preserved in the choir: St. Gaetano, by Luca Giordano (1662). The high altar, by Giovan Battista Broggia, is Neoclassical and submit to his right side a beautiful painting by Paolo De Matteis, "St. Andrew in Ecstasy". Two tombs sculpted by Tito Angelini for the Serra Gerace family  are placed in the first chapel. In the Church there is also the marble monument of the jurist Giuseppe de Gemmis (1734-1812).
