Via San Gregorio Armeno

Where Via San Gregorio Armeno, Napoli

Via San Gregorio Armeno is the famous street of the old town which is home to the workshops of cribs. The road is a typical Greek stenopos, perpendicular connection between the two main decumani. Starting from St. Gaetano Square, meets the eighteenth century building of the Bank of the People, now in serious state of abandonment; halfway, there is the Church of St. Gregorio Armeno, founded in 930 on the ancient Temple of Ceres; finally, the Church of St. Gennaro all'Olmo, in front of which is identified traditionally the domus Ianuaria, birthplace of St. Gennaro. The crib vocation of this road has ancient origins, although the birth of the Neapolitan nativity scene came from the end of the eighteenth century: St. Gregorio Armeno is known throughout the world as the permanent exhibition center of craft shops, with a highlight from early November to January 6.
