Parco e Tomba di Virgilio
Where
Salita della grotta, 20, Napoli
The small park site behind the church of S. Maria di Piedigrotta, near the railway station Mergelina encloses a portion of the eastern slopes of the hill of Posillipo, from the greek name pausilypon ("rest pain") as the beautiful Roman villa that stood on the hill, indicating the existing peace and quiet here. The park is home to landmarks relevant to the history of Naples and its name originates from the award to the poet Virgil (Andes, 70 BC - Brindisi, 19 BC), the Roman tomb contained therein.
