Piazza San Domenico Maggiore

Where Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, Napoli

St. Domenico Square is a short distance from Piazza del Gesù Nuovo and serves as a crossroads between "Spaccanapoli" and Via Mezzocannone. It takes its name from the church which stands over the Obelisk of St. Domenico, and was built by Alfonso I of Naples. By virtue of its position over the centuries, the Square is surrounded by several important palaces, including Petrucci Palace, Saluzzo Corigliano Palace, Palace of Sangro Casacalenda; Carafa della Spina Palace and Palace of Sangro. The Square is also home to the centuries-old Neapolitan pastry Scaturchio, producer of the Ministerial.
