Where Via Chiaia, 149, Napoli

The building dates back to the sixteenth century, commissioned by Giovanni Francesco Carafa. In the seventeenth century, it was attacked by the people during the revolt of Masaniello and in 1656, during the epidemic plague, became hospital. In the following century, the Palace was the center of receipt of important figures of the Italian nobility. In this regard, it was the subject of major modernization work performed by Picchiatti. The entrance portal, by Ferdinando Fuga, consists in a piperno Baroque arc, while the facade on Via Filangieri is conceived as a statement of an aristocratic palace of the eighteenth century. The building also has the back of a large garden, it has been there since the mid-sixteenth century. The interior rooms are painted by local artists. In 1948, in its quarries underground, it opened the movie theater "Metropolitan", designed by architect Stefania Filo Speziale, famous for being the bigger of the city (about 3000 seats).
