Via dei Vergini, Napoli
The Palace of the Spanish, valuable example of Neapolitan Baroque, is located in Via Vergini, in the Sanità distrect. It was erected in 1738 by order of the Marquis of Poppano, Nicola Moscati. The project is entrusted to Fardinando Sanfelice and provides a monumental double staircase, designed as a meeting place. Francesco Attanasio has cured the stucco Rococo decorations. Thomas Atienza, called "the Spanish", bought the Palace at the end of '700, expanding it with an additional floor and enriching with frescoes (later lost). Fragmented over the years, the property then passed to the Costa family, and finally to the Campania Region, as the historical site of the "Institute of Guarattelle" (Aragon puppets).
