District of the city of Lecco, which includes the northeastern outskirts of the city. Already in 1232 there was a nucleus, with its church and small mountain village, an independent town forming part of the Community General of Lecco, in the Duchy of Milan. The City of Acquate was suppressed and aggregated in Lecco in 1923. Acquate is one of the so-called "Manzoni itinerary", as there are set many scenes of "The Betrothed," including the opening words of the novel. The district is believed to be the birthplace of Renzo and Lucia, with the alleged home of the famele protagonist.
