Borgo di Calcata (Calcata Vecchia)
Calcata Vecchia, on a mountain of tufa, overlooking green Treja river valley. The village can be accessed by the only Gate that opens on ancient Walls. To visit in the village, Church of SS. Name of Jesus, whose structure dates back to the fourteenth century and consists of a nave with a trussed ceiling and font of the sixteenth century. Very interesting were the graffiti depicting Lanzichenecchi warriors in Baron's Palace, presumably lost during its restoration as those left by the prisoners when Palace was still working as a prison. From the village you can access several nature trails on foot or on horseback, crossing Regional Park of Treja. In the village of Calcata was filmed a scene of movie "Amici miei" (1975). Calcata is also mentioned by James Joyce in "Ulisse", in "Jesus Christ's Gospel" (1991) by José Saramago and a novel by Donald Bain. In Calcata live several artists, including architect Paolo Portoghesi and painter Simona Weller.
