Chiesa di San Severo

Where Via San Severo, Bardolino (Verona)

The Church of San Severo, Medieval building built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries on a pre-existing building, is considered a masterpiece of local Romanesque art, renowned above all for its precious frescoes. The church is located at the entrance to the city, in the northern part. The exterior is characterized by the high bell tower, built in stone, with a reddish end. The interior has three naves and has a wooden ceiling and columns in brick and tuff. The walls are decorated with a cycle of frescoes depicting Jesus's life, motifs of Apocalypse and of the legend about the discovery of true Cross. Inside there is also a crypt, part, perhaps, of a pre-existing Lombard building of the 8th-9th century.
