The Civic Archaeological Museum of Ugento was established in 1966 in order to accommodate many artefacts found in the city and its territory. Opened in 1968 under the name "Museum of Archaeology and Paleontology", has found home in the halls of the former Convent of the Minor Friars, adjacent to the Church of St. Anthony, in the historic center. In 2009, after a conservative restoration of the monumental complex, it was inaugurated as "New Archaeological Museum", to which were added materials from other sites of Salento.
