Lazzaretto

Where Via Catulo Lutazio, Trapani

Saint'Anthony Isle, today joined to the mainland, was originally home to the St. Anthony's Church (first half of the eleventh century). In 1831, General Giovanbattista Fardella ordered the construction of "Lazzaretto", in order to accommodate those infected by epidemics coming from adjacent port. Lazzaretto lived from 1838 to 1885. Today the complex, which is home to Italian Naval League, has a semi-circular courtyard overlooked by radially former housing for quarantine.
