Casa di Ippolito Nievo

Where casa nievo fossato, Rodigo (Mantova)

Nievo's home is located in Fossato, a small village of Rodigo. The building is indicated by a sign. Alessandro Nievo, Ippolito's grandfather, bought the property in 1756 from the Marquis Carlo Capilupi. Currently the building is well preserved: manor house, square-shaped compact, with the central entrance adorned with columns and large windows in wrought iron. A garden separated her from the barn with barn and from the servants' house. Inside, a long corridor leads into a large frescoed hall with a fireplace. The frescoes in the dining room are the work by Veronese painter Giuseppe Canella, who painted them between 1811 and 1815, a period in which his presence in Mantuan area is documented. On Ippolito Nievo's home, studies and research are under way which, according to experts, will provide important feedback. Nievo's stay in Fossato dates back to the years between 1855 and 1861, the most tormented from a literary and patriotic point of view.
