torre dell'orologio, Mantova
Clock Tower is located in Piazza delle Erbe, between Palazzo della Ragione and Rotonda di San Lorenzo. The square-shaped tower was erected between 1472 and 1473 by architect Luca Fancelli, at the service of Marquis of Mantua Ludovico III Gonzaga, on the basis of a pre-existing building. Under the clock was placed the statue of the Immaculate Virgin, dating from the early seventeenth century. The marble balcony is also of the same period. In the highest part of the tower there is a medium-sized bell that beats the hours. Inside it houses Museum of Time, in which are exposed the mechanisms of the time of the clock and from the top you can have a view of the city and the lakes that surround it.
