Corso Martiri della Libertà

Where Corso Martiri della Libertà, Ferrara

The Course, which starts at Cathedral Square and ends in the Largo Castello, was formerly known as Piazza del Commercio since there was the sale of the produce and animals. On the street is Municipal Palace, where Estense princesses resided, and Council of the Twelve Aware met. Today the Mayor has its seat. In front of Town Hall stands Archbishop's Palace, built in 1718 by Roman architect Tommaso Mattei. Enriched by impressive Baroque portal, ancient bishop's fifteenth-century burial ground joins the remains of Adelardi. On the Corso dominates Marchesana Tower of Estense Castle, on which the clock was placed in 1600. On the opposite side is Teatro Comunale, built between 1790 and 1797 by architects Antonio Foschini, Ferrara and Cosimo Morelli, beyond whose porch you access Rotonda Foschini, an indoor environment with an elliptical plant.
