The construction of the Governor's Palace was commissioned by the Este family in 1502, on the occasion of the marriage of Alfonso I d'Este and Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI. The current appearance of the building, in Neo-medieval style, is the result of the massive restoration of 1919. Of the original structure can still admire the Clock Tower, by Francesco Giraldini. Since 1988, the Governor's Palace is home to the Gallery of Modern Art "Aroldo Bonzagni", painter and designer of satire. The exhibition space is on two floors, in chronological order.
