Abbazia di Santo Spirito
We do not know the date of the founding of the Abbey, but it is certain that it was the first parish of the city. Church was commissioned by Count Roger and consecrated in 1153. In 1178 it was entrusted to Augustinians. The structure consists of a box topped with a gable roof and the semi-cylindrical apses topped by quarter sphere roofs. Overlooking Abbey, Regional Archaeological Museum. Inside, notable are the baptismal font, the choir of 1877, the fresco of Blessing Christ (XV century); the fresco of Panthocrator, repainted in 1964 by Archimedes Cirinnà, the statue of Our Lady of Grace (XVI century) in polychrome terracotta, which is the oldest Marian depiction in Caltanissetta; Staglio Crucifix, made with tempera on wood, the most precious of the Abbey, and the high altar.
