Chiesa dei Santi Faustino e Giovita

Where Via San Faustino, 74, Brescia

The Church of Saints Faustino and Giovita is located on the street of the same name and is Patron church of the city. The church dates back to an eighteenth-century building that has seen numerous extensions and reconstructions over the centuries, in particular seventeenth-century intervention, which led to radical renewal of the structure and decorations: Antonio Comino's design included a new solution, the use of "serliana"as a structural element. The construction of a new facade dates back to the eighteenth century and is work by Giuseppe Cantone, a well-known local sculptor, who starts the work with the laying of the first Botticino marble stones. The interior conserves extensive Baroque frescoes, especially that of the main aisle by Tommaso Sandrino and that of the presbytery, the Apotheosis of Saints Faustino, Giovita, Benedetto and Scolastica by Giandomenico Tiepolo. Remarkable works of art are Nativity of Jesus by Lattanzio Gambara, Deposition of Christ by Sante Cattaneo and the banner of Blessed Sacrament painted by Romanino. Among the other artistic works is Sepulchral Ark of the Saints. The chapel in the headboard at the right nave is the church's Baptistery, whose center is located baptismal font made in 1952 by the sculptor Claudio Botta. On the cantor behind the main altar, there is the 1843 barrel organ.
