Musei del castello - Museo delle armi Luigi Marzoli

Where Via del Castello, 9, Brescia

The Museum of Arms "Luigi Marzoli" is located in one of the oldest parts of the Castle of Brescia. It was opened in 1988 on the design of Carlo Scarpa, to host one of the richest European collections of armor and ancient weapons (and firearms), in an exhibition of 580 pieces (legacy of Luigi Marzoli) representing the centuries XV-XVIII. The path is divided into ten exhibition halls, and starts from the meanings of the armor in the fifteenth century, the century of heavy cavalry; then gives ample space to the weapons of the sixteenth century (with the superb armor "Massimiliana"). In the "Elk Hall" has place the reconstruction of two squads of spare knight, formed by soldiers and armed men on horseback; while the "Hall of luxury armors" is dedicated to two  parade wheels. The tour continues in the evocative story of the sword, until it get to the rich representation of firearms made by the most famous masters of reeds (Cominazzo, Chinelli, Dafino and Acquisti). The headquarters of the Museum allows it to appreciate a series of frescoes dating Visconti and the portion of the excavation of a Roman temple from the first century AD.
