Cavallino

Where Cavallino (Lecce)

Cavallino (LE) was recognized "City of Art and Culture", gave birth to the Risorgimento’s patriot Giuseppe La Viola De Dominicis (Captain Black), the most important Apulian dialect poet. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, around the eighth century BC it becomes one of the most important Messapic centers of Puglia. Among the cultural heritage in the area, worth visiting the imposing Castromediano’s Ducal Palace, with adjoining Gallery; the Parish Church and the St. Dominic’s Monument, not far from the former Convent (now university). The economy of Cavallino is based on the service sector: the commercial area (PIP) develops along Lecce-Maglie, with numerous factories craft, and Fraction Castromediano. The territory, cultivated and dotted with olive trees, bordered by the towns of Lecce, Lizzanello, San Cesario and San Donato.
