Where
Corso Porta Borsari, Verona
Porta Borsari is part of Roman City Wall. Original name was Port Iovia, for the presence of nearby temple dedicated to Jupiter. In Middle Ages was called Porta San Zeno, while current name refers to Borsari, the soldiers who collected on guard duty. The facade, made by local white limestone blocks, has two arched passages delimited by semi-columns with Corinthian capitals that hold up the entablature and pediment. Above it is articulated in two superposed planes decorated with a series of arcuate windows.
