Scaliger Arks are monumental funerary complex in Gothic style for Scala family, intended to hold the tombs of some distinguished representatives of the family, including that of the great Lord of Verona, Cangrande. They are located next to Church of Santa Maria Antica, near Piazza dei Signori, and were built in the fourteenth century by various sculptors. Against the wall of the church, the tomb of Mastino I della Scala, with a simple sarcophagus recalls Roman use; just ahead we are isolated the tomb of Alberto I della Scala; near the outer wall three simple tombs belonging to Bartholomew I, Cangrande II and Bartolomeo II. Above the side door there is magnificent ark of Cangrande I, a sarcophagus supported by four regents dogs the family crest.
