Word "miqwè" or "mikveh", as used in Bible, literally means "collection" meaning received water used for purpose of washing and purification rituals. In Syracuse old synagogue was located in former St. Giovannello's Church, while ritual baths (Miqwè) are eighteen meters under current residence "Alla Giudecca". Miqwè of Syracuse are the only visited in Sicily and are also called Miqwè of Bianca Home, named after the family that lived in the past tenement house now owned by Marchioness Amalia Daniele Di Bagni.
