Oratorio di Sant'Antonio dei Cavalieri de' Nardis

Where Via San Marciano, L'Aquila

Located in San Marciano District, it was built by Nardis family in the seventeenth century. It is a tradition that the church was built around a shrine with a miraculous painting of St. Anthony of Padua, by Francesco Bedeschini, the same fresco still dominates the high altar today. The building was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1703 following which, in the eighteenth century, important restoration interventions followed, including the replacement of the vaulted ceiling with a wooden one by Ferdinando Mosca. Inside, the antependium composed of twenty-seven majolica tiles by Castelli depicting saints is particularly important.
