Chiesa di San Ciriaco Abate
The huge bronze statue 7 meters high to San Ciriaco Abate, situated on the rocky spur ‘Zaccaniello’, dominates the town. San Ciriaco Abbot was born in the second half of the X century, in “Tripidone”, a village of greek origin, that with the hamlets of “Salvato” and “Trigiano”, in the second half of 1300, gave origin to the village of Buonvicino. He lived as a hermit at the caves of “Laura” first, and then in the greek monastery of “Santa Maria dei Padri”, who ruled as abbot. He enjoyed great fame for his righteousness and the miraculous virtues. It was summoned to Constantinople by the Emperor Michele VI in order to heal his daughter Marina, invaded by spirits. As a reward of healing, the abbot Ciriaco, had in favor of the monastery all the territory that correspond to the present Buonvicino. In addition to churches and lands in Malvito. San Ciriaco died on September 19 of a year and still not clarified, after 1042.
After His death, the charity work of the Basilian monks, was strong in every field. So in the second half of 1300, the inhabitants of Tripidone, Salvato and Trigiano, decided to move together near the monastery, giving rise to the current village of Buonvicino.
