Anfiteatro Romano

Via Caduti del Lavoro, Alife, (Caserta)

The Alife Amphitheatre was imposed on suburban landscape of the ancient city. The building presents testimonies of two building phases: in the first had a higher elevation and large arena; in the second, it was reduced the height of the monument, digging below the floor of the arena, and joined to the forum for most distinguished citizens. The Monument was then gradually dismantled for reuse of building materials in the construction of the city. The Amphitheater can be dated to the first decades of the first century AD thank's to the discovery of part of a dedicatory inscription.
