Museo civico di Erba

Where Via Ugo Foscolo, 23, Erba (Como)

The Erba Museum is located in Villa Ceriani-Bressi, built at the end of '700 by Gianluca Gavazzi on a pre-existing building from the fifth century, which remain the arches and some rooms. The Museum was founded in 1961 by Fernanda Isacchi, in order to create a cultural center halfway between Como and Lecco. Testimony of the Brianza area and the "Larian Triangle", the Museum was renovated in 1999, through a process that goes back in time, to the modern era to the geological. The main stages of the local history are documented in the eight rooms of the Museum: a set of tombs from Canzo (Copper Age and the Bronze Age), a sword Lombard with damascene and silver handle decorated, and a map from the Teresa's period are the most precious finds. In the courtyard are two exposed "tomb-stones" (rock-cut tombs irregular, dating from the fourth to sixth centuries AD) and a sarcophagus.
