At the south of the inhabited center, stands a 25-meter high monolith called Pizzomunno, the very symbol of the city of Vieste. Some legends are related to it: one time, when the town was only a village, a tall, strong fisherman named Pizzomunno fell in love with Cristalda, but their love was hunted by a siren, who in a raptus drowned Cristalda in the depths of the sea. The next day the fishermen found Pizzomunno petrified, in form of white rock that bear its name. Of the same legend there are several popular avriants.
