The Castle, a massive building built by Frederick II of Swabia, dominates the city's profile with its imposing line. It is a triangular plant, distinct from the buildings and the surrounding landscape for brown color, and overhangs the limestone rocks that give to the sea. The three points of the perimeter are reinforced by characteristic bastions to tip. It was damaged during Venetian raids and during World War I, currently used by the Italian Navy.
