Museo nazionale dell’Antartide Felice Ippolito
The Trieste branch of the National Antarctic Museum, inaugurated on 30th June 2004, is spread over an area of about 600 square meters and is focused on the history of the exploration of the Antarctic continent and the research in marine geology and geophysics. The Museum is divided into three main areas: the first is devoted to the history of Antarctica; exhibited some valuable historical maps original. The second tells the story of the exploration of Antarctica, with particular reference to the three pioneers of what was once one of the most rugged and difficult terrestrial expeditions, by Robert Falcon Scott, Roald Amundsen and Ernest Henry Shackleton. The last area deals with Italian shipment since the beginning of the '900 until the last organized by the National Research Project in Antarctica. In addition, interactive stations and multimedia paths allow visitors to learn about every aspect of the White Continent: from historical expeditions to the most recent Italian adventure in Antarctica, to insights on climate and paleoclimate.
