Parco del Castello di Miramare

The Miramare Park, with its twenty-two hectares, is the result of the demanding work conducted over many years by Maximilian of Habsburg on the rocky promontory of Grignano, between 1856 and 1860. For the design, Maximilian asked the support of Carl Junker, while for the botanical part is aimed initially at the gardener Josef Laube, replacing him later with Anton Jelinek, former participant in the famous expedition around the world of the frigate "Novara". Construction work began in the spring of 1856, followed constantly by Massimiliano, who will not stop interest in his garden even once settled in Mexico, where he will send a number of plants.
