Palazzo Corvaja

Corvaja Palace, aristocratic building in the center of Taormina, has as its core cubic original tower built by Arabs for military purposes between 902 and 1079, which were added to the left side wing, the staircase from the picturesque courtyard to the first floor (XIII century) and, in the early fifteenth century, the right side wing designed to house the assemblies of Sicilian Parliament. Arabs are the battlements of the tower, Catalan-Gothic mullioned windows and the entrance door, Norman is instead the fifteenth room where Parliament met. Residence of noble Corvaja family since 1538, in 1945 Palace underwent a long period of decline and abandonment. Restored by Municipality, the complex is now the seat of  Autonomous Tourist Board and in the halls on the first floor houses an interesting Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and several temporary exhibitions.
