Via Matteotti
Via Giacomo Matteotti, known as "La Vasca", is the main artery of Sanremo, centre of exclusive and international shopping of Arab sheiks, Russian oligarchs and French tourists. Traced to the mid nineteenth century, it was originally dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II (Via Vittorio). Besides the famous boutiques, on this Via overlook the many restaurants and cafes, as well as some of the most important historic buildings of the city (the famous Ariston Theatre, which takes place every year the Italian Song Festival, the historic Borea d'Olmo Palace, in which is the Civic Museum, and the Municipal Casino). In 2013, at the intersection between Via Matteotti and Via Escoffier was put a statue in honor of Mike Bongiorno, and a series of panels with brass engraved the names of all the artists and songs that have won the Festival.
