Chiesa di Santa Maria della Strada
Church of Santa Maria della Strada, in the territory of San Lorenzo Maggiore, in the province of Benevento, was annexed to a Benedictine monastery until the 19th century. The foundation of the church, according to tradition, took place following the discovery of an ancient icon depicting Madonna and Child, still an object of devotion. Painted figure, in Byzantine style, is imprinted on a wooden board the size of 60x40 cm, accompanied by monograms of Greek alphabet. Every year, on the first Sunday of July, traditional Parade of Grain Wagons is held: artistic compositions of wheat that represent sacred subjects, set up on agricultural trailers that parade in the square in front of the church, where they finally receive the blessing.
