This square overlooks the most important buildings of political and religious life of the city, such as Bishop's Palace, Duomo and Baptistery. On the north side stands Palazzo del Monte, from which stands Civic Tower with the clock; on the opposite side stands Commune's Palace, with Sala del Tricolore, and to the south-east, Torre del Bordello, now home to municipal offices. The west side of the square is occupied by Notaries, the former headquarters of Notaries College, and Palace of the Podestà.
