The walls of the city of Reggio Emilia, with hexagonal planes, were almost completely destroyed at the end of the 19th century and replaced by the so-called "avenues". There is a small part south of the city (Castle Gate Bastion). Of the four major gates, they remain standing, though largely rebuilt, Porta Santa Croce and Porta San Pietro.
