Porta delle Saline

Where Via Agostino Giustiniani, 3, Rapallo (Genova)

In ancient time Borgo of Rapallo, home of the most important crafts and the city authorities, was enclosed in a wall access only through five Gates. The only survivor is the so-called Porta delle Saline, who looked just as the salt marshes (today converted in Gardens on Square IV Novembre) enclosing to the west access from today's promenade Vittorio Veneto. Embellished over the centuries with typical colors in Genovese style and a sixteenth-century Byzantine framework linked to a Marian legend, Gate still divides the waterfront from the city center.
