Palazzo Vertemate Franchi
Renaissance masterpiece nestled in a lovely setting, in Prosto of Piuro, just two kilometers from Chiavenna. Built in the second half of the sixteenth century by brothers William and Louis Vertemate Franchi, is the only building of the property that was saved by the landslide of 1618 that flooded the country with many of its inhabitants. The facade is simple and essential, surrounded by airy spaces and functional, as the Italian garden. Then there are the orchard, the vineyard, the chestnut and a number of rustic buildings essential for the conduct of agricultural activities that were taking place in the estate. Inside walls and vaulted ceilings are richly painted, stue and inlaid ceilings are definitely the wonders of the building.
