The Bottonera Mill, founded in 1867, is located in the old artisan district of Chiavenna: an area that has been marked by activities that used the water of the Mera river through a number of channels. Arose mills, a paper mill, a hammer, two factories batting, several breweries and the pasta factory. Built on three floors and organized according to a complex interplay of pulleys, belts and mills continued its activities around the clock. The work was coordinated by a head miller who, with a team of workers, controlled the proper operation of machinery, and loading in the bags of the products of processing: flour, bran, middlings. The building ceased the activity in the sixties. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, with about nine thousand hours of free labor have recovered so perfect this important resource, it is now possible to visit the Museum built on three floors and organized according to a complex interplay of pulleys, belts and grinding stones.
