Parco Regionale di Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Lucane - Volo dell'Angelo
The Park has an extension of 27,027 hectares, including within the boundaries of the municipalities of Accettura, Calciano and Oliveto Lucano, in the province of Matera; Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa, in the province of Potenza. The Park protects a large area located in the center of regional territory which presents important naturalistic, historical and ethno-anthropological values, such as Forti di Gallipoli Cognato; Bosco di Montepiano the profiles of Lucane Dolomites of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa; remains of the fortification of the IV century. B.C. on the top of Monte Croccia. Among the most significant natural elements, the two arenaceous rock faces, Caperrino Mountain (1,400 m) and impressive peaks of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa mulberry dolomites, whose peak peak, Mount Impiso, reaches 1,319 meters. The same importance has wildlife, represented by wild boar, wolf, fox, rat, wild boar and wild cat. Among the rare appearances are Tritone Italico and Salamandrina with Glasses. Among the activities to be done in the Park, charming "Angel's Flight": a steel cable suspended between the peaks of two countries, Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa, allows to safely carry out a few minutes flight, unique in the world emotion and beauty of the landscape.
