Oratorio di San Bernardino

Where Piazza San Francesco, 5, Perugia

Famous is the facade covered with polychrome reliefs, by Agostino di Duccio, one of the finest examples of Renaissance art in the city. Its "hut" structure is framed by two side pillars, each containing two tabernacles, supporting a pediment, and the presence of a twin portal. From these architectural elements, you have the dominance of the sculptural decoration with bas-reliefs and the drapery of the figures very moved. The interior is covered with vaults of a nave divided into three bays. On the right wall, the Banner of San Francesco al Prato, by Benedetto Bonfigli. The altar is built with an early Christian sarcophagus of the fourth century, when it was buried the Blessed Giles. Behind the altar, two doors entering the oratory of Saints Andrea and Bernardino, decorated by a remarkable coffered ceiling carved and gilded 1558. Seats, stucco and paintings date from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with works by Gaetano Lapis, Marcello Leopardi, Vincenzo Ferreri.
