Palazzo Gallenga Stuart

Where Via Carlo Goldoni, Perugia

The Palace, in Baroque style, was built at the initiative of Giuseppe Antinori, designed by architect Francesco Bianchi, to become home of his noble family. The facade, characterized by large blocks of windows, cornices and brick pillars, was built by Pietro Carattoli between 1748 and 1758. In 1875, the Palace was bought by Romeo Gallenga Stuart and assumed its present name. In 1926, the Count sold the property to the City Council and, since 1927, the Palace became the seat of the University for Foreigners of Perugia. Of particular architectural value are the vestibule and the staircase entrance. Inside, the Great Hall designed by architect Dino Lilli, who guards a cycle of frescoes "Apotheosis of Rome", built in the '30s by the futurist painter Gerardo Dottori.
