Chiesa di San Francesco al Prato

Where Via San Francesco, Perugia

A single nave, preserves the original structure, although it remained for years uncovered by the collapse of the time because of the landslides of the hill. Monuments and chapels have been lost, the polychrome facade, however, was restored in 1926 by architect Pietro Angelini. The Chuch, among the first built in Italy after the death of St. Francis, has always had a social and artistic significance for the city of Perugia. Originally, there were twenty seven altars and chapels. Many works are from San Francesco al Prato: the Baglioni altarpiece (now in the Borghese Gallery), the Coronation of the Virgin (Oddi Altarpiece by Raphael, now in the Pinacoteca Vaticana) and some paintings by Perugino, Fiorenzo di Lorenzo and other artists.
