Sasso Barisano, located along the road that exiting from the city, goes to Bari, northwest, is the richest of sculpted portals and friezes that hide its underground heart. To divide the two valleys of the stones rises the cliff of Civita, which houses beautiful Romanesque Cathedral, whose feet and the upper edge of Sassi lies Piano, post-Medieval historical center beyond which extends contemporary Matera.
