The Statue of Christ Redeemer, Maratea's symbol, is a colossal sculpture placed on the top of the St. Blase Mount. Made with a special mixture of cement and flakes of Carrara marble by Florentine artist Bruno Innocenti, between 1963 and 1965. The work was created in 1953 by an idea of Stefano Rivetti. The statue is 21.13 meters high and weighs about 400 tons. It rests on a steel skeleton, and rises directly from the bare earth, without stand, leaving visible left foot. The Christ's face differs from the classic iconography for his short hair and beard just mentioned, the arms are outstretched in a gesture reminiscent of the Lord's Prayer. The statue is not a foreign body into the surrounding environment, but blends in view.
