PALAZZO CHIGI

The Ducal Palace of Ariccia is an example of Baroque residence remained unchanged in its environment and in its original furnishings, to document the splendor of one of the greatest Italian papal families: the Chigi, already owners of the homonymous Roman palace, now home of Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Started in the second half of the sixteenth century by the family of the Savelli, the Palace was commissioned by the Chigi transformed into a sumptuous Baroque residence between 1664 and 1672, on a design concept by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who made use of the collaboration of his young student Carlo Fontana. The Palace boasts a large collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture of the seventeenth century, a museum of itself and the center of many cultural activities (exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, conferences), in 2008 opened to the public also the "Museum of Roman Baroque", made up of an important collection of paintings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, located on the mezzanine.
